IMDF Map Hosting

Following the published pricing approach used by Mapbox, the IMDF indoor map platform is offered as a monthly service: published prices, a fixed monthly fee and transparent overage tiers. Beyond cloud hosting, and in response to the information security and resilience rules at airports, hospitals and government agencies, we also offer hybrid cloud + on-premises deployment. Map outputs are mirrored to the venue's on-premises server, and service switches there if the cloud has a problem.

Product Positioning

An IMDF-native indoor map platform developed in-house by a Taiwanese team, with self-hosting on the cloud or on-premises

Product in use: Taoyuan Airport Indoor Map (Traditional Chinese / English / Japanese). The "Powered by" credit in the lower-left corner of the map viewer links back to this page.

Developed In-House by a Taiwanese Team

The map platform code is written by our own team in Taiwan. We are not a reseller, and this is not systems integration on top of a third-party product.

IMDF Native In and Out

Maps are built directly from IMDF (an OGC community standard), and we can produce IMDF archives for submission to Apple Maps. It is not a proprietary format with an export step.

Self-Hosting on Cloud or On-Premises

It can be deployed in the cloud, or deployed as a whole to the venue's on-premises server. The data and the platform belong to the customer, with no dependence on any map platform or third-party SaaS.

Note: "local" means Taiwanese-owned, with both headquarters and team in Taiwan. "Self-hosted" means the customer can deploy the map platform in the cloud or on-premises, without depending on Apple Maps, Google Maps or third-party SaaS. Verified against publicly available information as of September 2026.

Two Deployment Options, One Content Operations System

Choose the deployment option that fits the venue's rules, then add the management sandbox and operations modules you need. The Hybrid edition and every add-on module carry published prices, so a three-year total can be worked out before any contract. The Cloud-hosted edition is quoted by venue size.

Cloud-hosted edition

We host the map platform in our cloud and you embed it as a web page in your website or app. Includes an allowance of 50,000 map loads per month. Suits malls, exhibition halls and general campuses with no data residency restrictions.

Hybrid edition

Beyond the cloud, map outputs are mirrored to the venue's on-premises server, and service switches there if the cloud has a problem. Built for venues with special rules, such as airports, hospitals and government agencies.

Management Sandbox and Operations

Back-office review-and-publish, mobile field inspection, staging preview before publishing, and a content API for your website. Map content stays correct instead of drifting out of date after delivery.

Learn about the management sandbox

Cloud-hosted edition

The map platform runs on the open-source MapLibre GL engine with PMTiles static tiles, so there is no map engine license fee, and the data is built natively to the IMDF international standard (created by Apple, adopted by OGC). On the venue side, embed the map viewer in your website or app with an iframe or a WebView, or use each POI's own link directly. No SDK installation is required.

Case Study

  • Partner airport - the indoor map platform covering every level across multiple terminals is live, in Traditional Chinese, English and Japanese, and the airport owns the map data copyright

Service Scope

  • Cloud hosting and version maintenance for the map platform, with an allowance of 50,000 map loads per month and overage billed on published tiers
  • Embedded as a web page in your website or app, or linked straight in through each POI's own link, with no SDK
  • Floor switching, panning and zooming, and search for stores and facilities, with info cards showing name, category, opening hours and location notes
  • Traditional Chinese, English and Japanese interface and content
  • Keeps working on a weak connection: a map page that is already open can still be browsed and searched after the network drops

Where It Fits

  • Malls and department stores
  • Exhibition halls and convention centers
  • Large office buildings and campuses
  • Stations and transport hubs

Hybrid edition: for venues with special rules

Airports, hospitals and government agencies often have rules on data residency, on critical services that must not be interrupted, or on continuing to serve internal users when the external network fails. A cloud-only map service cannot answer those requirements. On top of cloud hosting, the Hybrid edition mirrors the map outputs (static tiles and POI data) to the venue's own on-premises server. Service switches there if the cloud has a problem, and the resilience documentation is maintained with each release.

Case Study

  • Partner airport - the map platform is served on the Hybrid edition, meeting the airport's requirements for critical-service resilience and information security audits

Technical Features

  • Map outputs are static tiles and JSON, so syncing to an on-premises node is cheap and service continues when the network is cut
  • Service switches to on-premises if the cloud has a problem, and the resilience documentation (SOP) is maintained with each release
  • The on-premises server needs only modest specifications and can run on a virtual machine the venue already has
  • If server room syncing, on-premises updates or failover drills need our staff on site, that is an optional item charged per person-day
  • Compliance items such as security vulnerability scanning are covered by a separate proposal based on the venue's rules

Where It Fits

  • Airports and critical infrastructure
  • Hospitals and medical campuses
  • Government agencies and public-sector venues
  • Corporate campuses with data residency or intranet service requirements

Management Sandbox and Content Operations

Drawing the map is only the starting point. Stores move in and out, opening hours change and construction closes areas off; the content changes daily, and a map without an operations system starts going out of date the day it is delivered. These tools let venue staff edit, review and publish the content themselves, so edits and releases from many places still come back to a single data source.

Add-On Modules

  • Back-office POI management platform (management sandbox): sandbox accounts, role and department permissions, edit-and-submit with review approval, a full change log, one-click restore from per-version snapshots, and data backups
  • Mobile web field inspection: on-site staff work from a phone, with floor inspection checklists, tap-to-edit, on-site photos, drag-to-correct positions on the map and inspection markers (5 accounts)
  • Staging preview: a pre-publish preview environment with layer overlay comparison, so nothing goes live until it checks out
  • Public-facing POI CMS API: POI content is supplied to your website vendor as an API or JSON feed for their own layouts, keeping the map and the website consistent
  • Wayfinding and navigation APIs: routing, accessible routing and natural-language wayfinding, for your website, app and AI help desk (optional, quoted separately)

How This Differs from a General Map Cloud Service

  • A general map cloud service sells "map infrastructure usage"; a style design tool is not a POI content management system
  • The subscription here buys three things that keep happening: "content that stays correct, resilience when the connection drops, and local, immediate support"
  • The sandbox environment can be demonstrated by appointment, covering every passenger-side and operations-side feature in about 15 minutes

Frequently Asked Questions

The questions that come up most often when evaluating map hosting: the subscription, hybrid deployment, map load allowances, embedding and map data ownership

The subscription buys three things that keep happening: content that stays correct (the inspect, review and publish operations loop), service that does not stop (cloud servers, CDN, on-premises backup and failover drills), and local, immediate support (Chinese-language technical support). Stop paying and those three stop happening; a map delivered once starts going out of date the day it is accepted. There is also a practical budget reason: a subscription runs on recurring expenditure with no one-time build fee, which the public sector and large venues find easier to budget and review. Field surveys and attendance at the server room are not included in the subscription; they are optional and charged per person-day.

Hybrid means the cloud-hosted map outputs (static tiles and POI data) are mirrored to the venue's own on-premises server, and service switches to on-premises if the cloud has a problem. You need this edition if the venue has data residency requirements, if a critical service must not be interrupted, if the intranet still has to be served, or if information security rules require offline operation. Ordinary malls and exhibition halls are usually fine with the Cloud-hosted edition. The on-premises server needs only modest specifications and can normally run on a virtual machine the venue already has.

A map load is counted each time the map viewer page is opened; panning, zooming, floor switching and searching within the page are not counted separately. Above the allowance, use is billed per thousand loads along published tiers, and the rate falls as volume rises; above 5,000,000 loads, contact us. This matches how Mapbox prices map loads. The difference is that our prices are fixed in NT$ and unaffected by exchange rates.

No SDK is needed. The map viewer is a web page: embed it in your website with an iframe, or in your app with a WebView. Every POI also has its own link, so a store page on your website can link straight to that location on the map. If your website vendor wants to lay out POI content on their own pages, the public-facing POI CMS API add-on gives them the same data source.

Yes, as optional API add-ons: a routing API (point-to-point routes and walking times), an accessible routing API and a natural-language wayfinding API, all of which your website, app or AI help desk can call. Pricing depends on the venue and is quoted separately.

The map data is built to the IMDF international standard and the venue owns the map data copyright (as is the case at the partner airport). The format is open and can be exported in full, so changing vendors or working on the data yourself is unrestricted. The map engine is the open-source MapLibre GL with PMTiles static tiles, with no proprietary licensing lock-in.

Mapbox is a general-purpose mapping infrastructure platform and sells map usage. Indoor data has to be converted to its vector tile format and hosted in its cloud, while POI content management, on-site inspection, feeding content to your website and on-premises deployment all need separate development or an enterprise arrangement. This service is built IMDF-native and packages the content management sandbox, the review-and-publish workflow, mobile field inspection and hybrid cloud + on-premises deployment as modules with published prices, which suits venues that need a fixed budget, data sovereignty and local support. The published pricing for both is set out in the market comparison on this page, so you can compare for yourself.
